I have a friend who is deathly afraid of lizards..
Why is this?  I don’t know.  But to him its very real and it freaks him out.  He gets a panic attack and just runs away if there’s one nearby.

Are there things he can do to work it out?  Of course.  There are always things you can do.  But one of the best ways is to work out why its happening.  What was the trauma that caused it at the start.  For these sorts of phobia’s there is something in your subconscious that causes the fear to manifest and it can take over and run your life.  But you can do something about it.

Here’s the problem though.  You have to want to do something about it and a lot of people don’t or they believe nothing can be done.  They feel that because this has been a part of their life for so long then they must live with it the rest of their lives.  Not so.

There are many professionals that can help you get past your fears and phobias.  Sometimes even examining the thoughts in your head when you start feeling the panic can help.  Since its the subconscious that’s triggering the fears then there will be thoughts associated with those fears and its important to work out what the thoughts are that trigger the feeling of ‘Must get away’.  Once you know the trigger you can work on removing the affect it has on your life.  Not knowing makes it harder to fix.
